Ingredients You’ll Need 🛒
For the Cake Base:
1 cup ricotta cheese (full-fat for best texture)
2 large eggs
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
¼ cup milk (for extra moisture, optional)
For the Chocolate Swirl:
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, but highly recommended!)
What You’ll Need 🔪🍰
A 9-inch round cake pan
Mixing bowls
Hand or stand mixer
Whisk
Spatula
Toothpick (for testing doneness)
A skewer or knife (for swirling)
How to Make Double Chocolate Ricotta Marble Cake 🍰✨
1️⃣ Preheat & Prep
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Using a hand or stand mixer, beat the softened butter and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
3️⃣ Add Ricotta & Eggs
Mix in the ricotta cheese and eggs until smooth and creamy. This is where the magic starts—the ricotta makes the batter incredibly rich!
4️⃣ Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt.
5️⃣ Mix It Up
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If the batter feels too thick, add a splash of milk for a smoother consistency.
6️⃣ Divide & Chocolate-Boost
Split the batter in half. In one half, fold in the chocolate chips and add an extra tablespoon of cocoa powder to intensify the chocolate flavor.
7️⃣ Swirl It! 🌀
Spoon alternating dollops of vanilla and chocolate batter into the cake pan. Take a knife or skewer and gently swirl the batters together for that gorgeous marbled effect. Don’t overmix—just a few elegant swirls will do!
8️⃣ Bake to Perfection
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The smell alone will have everyone waiting by the oven!
9️⃣ Cool & Finish
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack. Optional but highly recommended: dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate for a finishing touch.
What to Serve with This Cake 🍷☕
This cake pairs beautifully with:
☕ A hot cup of coffee or espresso for a classic Italian-style dessert.
🍨 A scoop of vanilla or coffee ice cream for extra indulgence.
🍓 Fresh berries like raspberries or strawberries to balance the richness.
🥂 A glass of red wine or dessert wine for an elegant pairing.
Baking Tips for a Perfect Marble Cake 👩🍳
✔ Use full-fat ricotta – It provides the best texture and richness.
✔ Don’t overmix – Stir the batters just until combined for a tender crumb.
✔ Swirl gently – Over-swirling can muddy the design, so keep it light and airy.
✔ Check for doneness – Every oven is different! Start checking at 30 minutes to prevent overbaking.
✔ Store properly – See below for the best way to keep this cake fresh!
🔹 At Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
🔹 In the Refrigerator: Keeps well for 5-6 days (best served slightly warmed).
🔹 Freezing Option: Wrap slices tightly in plastic wrap, then in foil, and freeze for up to 2 months. Defrost at room temperature before serving.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) ❓
Can I use another cheese instead of ricotta?
Mascarpone or Greek yogurt can work, but ricotta gives the best texture!
Can I make this gluten-free?
Yes! Swap all-purpose flour for a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend.
What if I don’t have chocolate chips?
No problem! The cocoa swirl alone is delicious, or you can add chopped chocolate.
Can I use oil instead of butter?
Butter provides more flavor, but you can substitute ½ cup vegetable oil if needed.

The recipe calls for a round pan but the pictures clearly show a hole in the middle. Is this a mistake and a bundt pan should be used? If so, does the baking time need to be adjusted? Looks wonderful and I can’t wait to try!
1) the pic appears that the cake was baked in a Bundt pan. My cake turned out like an oversized doughnut!
2) the pic clearly shows vanilla swirls, but the recipe adds cocoa powder to the whole batter and, then, is divided into two. So, you have an entire chocolate cake and no distinct vanilla swirls.
3) I will not be baking this one again.

I don’t see a print recipe button or save to Pinterest. What’s a viewer supposed to do?
Unfortunately the site stinks! I wanted to see the ingredients instead of all the ads.
