Ingredients
  

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until smooth.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and blend well.
  • Gradually incorporate the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.
  • Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the dough into heart shapes.
  • Place the heart-shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before decorating with icing and sprinkles, if desired.

Notes

For a softer texture, chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes before rolling it out.
Feel free to customize the cookies with your favorite icing and toppings, such as sprinkles, colored sugar, or edible glitter.
If you prefer, you can substitute the egg with a flax egg to make the recipe vegan.
