One-Pan Creamy Penne with Spinach and Italian Sausage

Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage bulk or casings removed
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 4 cups fresh spinach chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: Cook the Sausage
  • In a large skillet or pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Sauté until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Step 2: Add the Garlic
  • Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. This will add a deep, aromatic flavor to the dish.
  • Step 3: Pour in the Liquid and Add Pasta
  • Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream. Add the penne pasta, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  • Step 4: Simmer Until Tender
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the pasta simmer for about 10-12 minutes, or until it's cooked through and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Step 5: Add Spinach and Cheese
  • Once the pasta is cooked, add the chopped spinach and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir to combine, letting the spinach wilt and the sauce thicken, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Step 6: Season and Serve
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. For a fresh pop of flavor, sprinkle with chopped basil if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
