Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Variety of food colors for emoji decorations
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Black fondant
  • Edible glue or water

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Add yellow food coloring and mix until the batter matches your desired emoji hue.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Level the cooled cake layers, spread buttercream between them, and frost the outside.
  • Decorate with fondant and food colors to create emoji faces. Attach details using edible glue or water.
  • Chill the cake until ready to serve. Slice and enjoy!
