  • 1 lb imitation crab meat or real crab, shredded 🦀
  • Imitation crab is budget-friendly and works great but if you’re feeling fancy, opt for fresh crab meat.
  • Dressing
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise 🥄
  • For creaminess; use regular light, or avocado-based mayo depending on your preference.
  • 1/4 cup sour cream 🍶
  • Adds a slight tang and enhances the creamy texture.
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard 🌟
  • Provides a subtle kick and depth of flavor.
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice 🍋
  • Brightens the flavors and balances the richness.
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning 🌶️
  • This iconic seafood seasoning is essential for that signature crab salad taste.
  • Salt and pepper to taste 🧂
  • Vegetables and Add-ins
  • 1/4 cup celery finely chopped 🥬
  • Adds crunch and freshness.
  • 1/4 cup red onion finely chopped 🧅
  • Gives the salad a mild sweet sharpness.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Crab Meat
  • Take 1 lb of imitation crab meat (or real crab) and shred it into bite-sized pieces using your hands or two forks.
  • If using real crab meat, ensure there are no shell fragments.
  • Place the shredded crab in a large mixing bowl.
  • Step 2: Make the Creamy Dressing
  • In a small bowl, whisk together:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • Whisk until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  • Step 3: Assemble the Salad
  • Add to the bowl with the crab meat:
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • Pour the creamy dressing over the crab mixture.
  • Gently toss everything together using a large spoon or spatula until all the ingredients are evenly coated.
  • Be careful not to overmix, as this can break up the crab meat too much.
  • Step 4: Chill the Salad
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the salad to an airtight container.
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
  • Serve the crab salad in your favorite way:
  • On its own as a light appetizer or side dish
