Hello! I’m Lily. Welcome to Savory Splash!
Thanks for diving into my culinary world. I’d love to share the story of how my passion for bold flavors and exciting cuisines began.
I grew up in a bustling household where the kitchen was always alive with activity. My mom worked long hours, so dinner often meant takeout boxes scattered across our dining table. But twice a month, my Aunt Rosa would visit from her little coastal town, and everything changed.
Aunt Julie had this incredible gift—she could walk into any kitchen and create magic from whatever ingredients were available. I remember watching her transform our basic pantry staples into dishes that made our whole house smell like a five-star restaurant. She’d sprinkle mysterious spices I’d never heard of, toss vegetables with oils that shimmered like liquid gold, and somehow turn simple chicken into something that made my taste buds dance.
“Lily,” she’d say, letting me taste-test her creations, “food should never be boring. Life’s too short for bland meals.” Those words stuck with me like the aroma of her famous garlic and herb roasted potatoes.
By the time I was sixteen, I was begging Aunt Julie to teach me her secrets during every visit. She’d laugh and hand me a wooden spoon, saying, “The best way to learn is to jump in and get messy.” We’d spend hours experimenting with flavor combinations that shouldn’t work but somehow did—like her chocolate chili brownies that became legendary among my friends.
When I left for college, armed with a collection of Aunt Julie’s handwritten recipes (complete with her encouraging little notes in the margins), I discovered something wonderful: cooking became my way of bringing people together, just like she did. My tiny dorm kitchen became a gathering place where friends would squeeze in to watch me recreate Rosa’s magic and create new adventures of my own.
Now at 26, even though Aunt Julie moved across the country last year, I carry her adventurous spirit with me in every dish I create. This blog is my way of honoring her fearless approach to cooking and sharing that same excitement with you.
When I’m not experimenting in the kitchen, you’ll find me at local farmers markets hunting for ingredients that spark my imagination, or curled up with a coffee planning my next flavor adventure—usually something that combines sweet and savory in unexpected ways!
I hope my recipes inspire you to break free from those same five meals on repeat and transform your kitchen into the culinary playground it’s meant to be. Because just like Aunt Rosa taught me, life really is too short for boring food.
