Equipment

  • clear jar (plastic recommended for kids)
  • spoon or stir stick
  • UV blacklight flashlight for glow activation
  • hot glue gun (optional for sealing lid)

Materials

  • 1 clear jar with tight lid (plastic or glass)
  • warm water (to fill jar)
  • 1–2 tbsp clear glue or baby oil
  • blue food coloring or glow-in-the-dark paint
  • glow-in-the-dark beads, glitter, or sequins
  • small plastic sea creatures (fish, turtles, sharks)
  • mini seashells or aquarium plants (optional)
  • few drops of glycerin (optional, for slower motion)
  • UV blacklight flashlight (to activate glow)

Instructions

  • Fill your jar with warm water, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top.
  • Stir in 1–2 tablespoons of clear glue or baby oil to help create swirling movement.
  • Add a few drops of blue food coloring or glow paint and stir until evenly colored.
  • Add glow beads, glitter, sequins, and plastic sea creatures. Optional: include seashells or aquarium plants.
  • Add a few drops of glycerin for slower movement (optional).
  • Seal the lid tightly. For added safety, hot glue the rim before closing.
  • Charge under UV blacklight or strong lamp. Shake gently, turn off lights, and enjoy your glowing ocean!

Notes

Use glow-in-the-dark beads or paint that charges under light. For safest results with kids, use plastic jars and seal lids with hot glue. Glycerin helps slow the movement for a more calming effect. Refresh the glow with a UV light whenever needed.
