Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsulfured molasses
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and molasses until fully incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool in the pan for 20 minutes, then lift the brownies out using parchment paper and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

Ingredient Swaps: Substitute molasses with dark corn syrup or honey.
