Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Step 2: Shape the Patties

Form the meat mixture into oval-shaped patties, ensuring they’re of uniform thickness so they cook evenly.

Step 3: Brown the Patties

In a skillet over medium-high heat, add a small amount of oil and brown the patties on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. This step adds flavor and helps the patties hold their shape in the Crock Pot.

Step 4: Prepare the Sauce

In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and ketchup until smooth.

Step 5: Layer in the Crock Pot

Place the browned patties in the bottom of the Crock Pot. Pour the mushroom gravy mixture over the top, ensuring the patties are well-covered.

Step 6: Cook in the Crock Pot

Cover the Crock Pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the patties are fully cooked and tender.

Step 7: Serve

Gently stir the sauce, then serve the Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes or egg noodles, spooning extra gravy over the top. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
